Did You Know?

Watching paint dry isn't as painful as you thought!

For most interior painting and exterior painting jobs with standard latex paint, the surface is dry to the touch within an hour. Paint can take several days to fully dry, but won’t rub off if you brush against it.

Some paint finishes can be more forgiving than others.

Semi-gloss and high gloss paint can reveal small nicks and bumps. If you have minor imperfections on your wall surface, you may want to use flat or satin finish paint so they will be less noticeable.

Most people purchase the wrong quantity of paint when beginning a project.

To get a general idea of how much paint you will need, calculate the wall surface area (height x width) of all walls combined. You will need approximately 1 gallon of paint for 400 sq. feet of wall space. This is simply an estimate and the exact amount will depend on the quality of paint that is used.

What makes paint colorful?

Pigment, along with binder, solvent, and other additives are the main ingredients of paint. Pigment is the component that gives paint its color and opacity. The pigments used in paint are normally present as fine solid particles that are dispersed, but not soluble, in the binder and solvent.

Sometimes you need a coat of primer.

Walls must be primed before applying the finish coat of paint when the surface hasn't ever been painted, when going from a dark color to a light color or when the surface is stained with nicotine, crayon, ink, or has lots of scuff marks.

A clean wall is a happy wall.

To assure maximum washability and durability, wait at least two weeks before washing the dry paint film. Avoid any abrasive or harsh chemical cleaners as these could damage the paint film.

Sheen isn't just a wacky celebrity.
